Guest Post: Amy Smart takes on single-use bags (Yes To change!)

Amy Smart, good friend, Carrot Lover, and brilliant actress, asked that I support her in spreading the word about her work in Sacramento, our state's capital.

She sent this update for our blog, along with this photo of her and Rosario Dawson and Rachelle Lefevre.

Here is a photo of myself, Rosario, and Rachelle lobbying last month for AB 1998. It's intent is to ban the single-use plastic and paper bag from all grocery stores and pharmacies.

In California alone we use over 19 billion grocery and merchandise bags each year. We have a huge plastic garbage patch in the middle of the Pacific Ocean twice the size of Texas.

We lobbied on Tuesday, the assembly voted on Wednesday, and it passed by just one vote.

We are halfway there: now we need to get the senate on board and they will be voting the last week of August! Vote Yes on AB 1998: Ban the Bag Bill.

  1. Great blog Amy! I wish more states would think of doing this. It kills me to drive down the road and see random shopping bags littering the road. Thanks for all you do.
