Seasons change and thank goodness for them. Autumn months are the time to say Yes To heirloom tomatoes!
Heirloom Café is a relatively new, country-style charming restaurant that opened up in the Mission District of San Francisco. Although they don’t have a plethora of vegetarian items on the menu, they were more than enthusiastic to accommodate moi.
The menu? Refreshingly simple.
The veggie agenda. The heirloom tomato salad is an absolute must: Heirloom tomatoes, fennel, cucumbers, and feta. If that doesn’t make for a 5-star appetizer, then I don’t know what would. Buratta and mission figs (sans prosciutto, of course) were next. If you eat dairy, then this is a treat. Last, but not least: pole beans, wild arugula, and pickled dates. Sweet and savory heaven.
By the way, plates are perfect to share, which works out to be cost-effective-fabulous.
Heirloom Café gets my highest recommendation for an filling, healthy, veggie-style dinner.
Because what we put on our bodies is as important is what goes in our bodies.
